New Grant to Study EV Modulation during Infection

MAY 1, 2026

With this new grant, our primary goals are to:

  1. Define changes in pulmonary extracellular vesicle (EV) populations and inflammatory potential during pneumonic plague, and

  2. Use Y. pestis mutants to delineate the molecular mechanisms of EV biogenesis in neutrophils.

Defining the mechanisms that Y. pestis uses to inhibit inflammation will improve our understanding the bacterium’s pathogenesis, the molecular mechanisms responsible for EV biogenesis by neutrophils, and the role of EVs in the regulation of inflammation during acute bacterial infections.
